JC Penney is actually expanding during this credit crunch, but are any national grocery chains growing?

I’m not looking for sub-living wage labor of any kind.
When I say that a company is expanding, I mean that it is opening new stores.
Are any grocers with distribution centers in the southern California / Inland Empire area opening new stores?
Thanks.

Publix, but I think they are mainly a Southeast chain. They just took over some of the Albertson’s around here.

If you are talking about job openings, grocery probably will not. What you are seeing is most likely are the holiday employment that should end either at Christmas or around New Years.
If you are looking, your best bet is to look at the individual companies job websites and have your resume ready. If you are interested in sales jobs, see

JC Penney is doing some serious growth. They were going down long ago because people don’t go to one store for everything anymore. Wards, Sears, KMart all took a hit. JC Penney planned ahead and got off the totally appealing to the immigrant, redneck and ghetto thing.
The grocery chains are the same. Companies like Safeway and Shoppers retooled. Fix the place up and offer decent stuff.
Companies like Bloom (used to be food lion) try to bump up but it matters not. They do not have the know how and staff company wide to do it. In many grocery stores choices are now super limited. All of the chains are doing it.
Safeway was ahead of the curve. In my part of the world there is a company called Wegmans. Both are growing right and left.
